Amanda Ewing

Amanda N. Ewing is a luthier, cultural arts advocate, and founder of The Lutherie Lounge and the Black in Lutherie (BIL) Initiative. These projects create space to honor the legacy, future, and brilliance of Black instrument makers. Based in Nashville, Amanda hand-builds instruments from the violin family and ancestral stringed instruments, blending traditional craftsmanship with personal story and cultural memory.

Her work is rooted in reverence for the hands that came before, for the voices that were silenced, and for the beauty that rises when history and artistry come together. Each instrument is a quiet offering, shaped with care and intention. It is a way to reclaim space for those who have too often been left out of the craft.

Outside the shop, Amanda stays grounded in her community. She contributes to local arts programs and food-growing initiatives that prioritize access, equity, and cultural preservation. She believes that creative work should nourish and connect, whether it happens in the workshop, in the garden, or in everyday life.

Amanda is committed to a life of making—where legacy is honored, stories are carved into sound, and the craft is a vessel for change.
